The phases of the moon are one of the most fascinating astronomical behaviors we can observe with the naked eye and a deeply rich source of thought and interpretation for Astrology. Among the 8 phases – New, Waxing Crescent, 1st Quarter Half, Waxing Gibbous, Full, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter Half, and Waning Crescent – the New and Full Moons capture most of the attention. This article will look at the current New Moon and suggest a “creation activity” associated with the sign of this New Moon, based on the work of the late astrologer Jan Spiller from her book: New Moon Astrology: The Secret of Astrological Timing to Make All Your Dreams Come True.
New Moon – Let’s Start Something!
The Libra New Moon will occur on September 28th at 5 degrees and 20 minutes; in my Eastern Standard Time zone, it will happen at 2:26 pm. It takes 29.5 days from one New Moon to the next, spending approximately 2 and ½ days in a sign. Just before the New Moon begins, the last 3 days of the previous moon phase (Waning Crescent) is known as the Balsamic Moon. Those days are ideal for meditating, reflecting, and releasing; all in preparation for the New Moon.
New Moon in Libra
Since Libra is an air energy, and the sign Venus rules, this New Moon is ideal for starting a new friendship, romantic relationship, or joining a new group. Libra is the “I relate” energy of the Zodiac is something you need to initiate with regard to your relationships, to get or keep your life in balance, or to help others in your life who are in need of support?
This New Moon will occur between the 5th and 6th degree of Libra, making its Sabian symbol 6 Libra, “The ideals of a man abundantly crystallized”. Jones says, “This is a symbol of experience as the practical or everyday substantiation of inner insight and conscious understanding.” (The Sabian Symbols, 306). The keyword is PERSONIFICATION. Who do you need to become at this time in your life?
From 9/28 to 9/30 the energy of the New Moon will be at its strongest. If you get to read this article ahead of those days, you can think about who you want to connect with, how your start new relationships (we all have patterns), and who needs your emotional help. You can use the Balsamic Moon from 9/25 to 9/27 to reflect and meditate on all your relationships and assess “where they stand”. As with all things astrological, timing is everything, so it’s important to know the time of the New Moon in your time zone. I will be looking to address my relationship concerns after 2:26 pm EST.
New Moon Wishing (A Tribute to Jan Spiller’s Work)
I enjoy practical uses of astrology, and there are many. So I was immensely pleased when I came across Spiller’s book: New Moon Astrology: The Secret of Astrological Timing to Make All Your Dreams Come True. In it, she details the process for “making wishes”, which is what I like to call a “grabby phrase” to get non-astrology people to peer inside her book. More seriously, it is Law of Attraction intention setting using astrological timing in the high energy just after the New Moon.
Spiller says, “Wishing is really a matter of deciding what we WANT to create and getting clear on our intention.” (New Moon Astrology, 2) This technique is an act of conscious responsibility, not a lazy entitlement. There is actual work to do. This work involves knowing the time of the New Moon in your time zone and preparing to act within the first 8 hours AFTER the New Moon has activated, which is best if you can do them that quickly, but within 24 hours for sure.
